I’ve been gone for a long time. The TL;DR of this video and post is that I am coming back, but don’t expect a regular schedule or anything like that.
Pandemics are crazy times to be alive. My family and I have come this far pretty much unscathed, and now that we are vaccinated and things are opening up our lives are beginning to look a lot more normal.
It’s an odd thing to work in the live entertainment business at a time when it is impossible to do live entertainment. Thankfully, I am still employed and we have not experienced the financial hardship that many in my industry have. What we have experienced is an awful lot of crazy anxiety, exposure scares, and having a lot more time on our hands than we did prior to the pandemic. You would have thought that I would be super excited about content creation and building a larger audience and making my content better during those periods of downtime, but what I experienced was a total lack of motivation to do any of that stuff.
Essentially, since flight sim development generally moves at a glacial pace and since I have been fairly focused on X-Plane 11, my options for new things to play with and new things to try in sim and the smaller subset of those new things that I am actually interested in is very limited. It’s hard to be inspired to go and make X-Plane videos when everything in MSFS looks way better, even though MSFS doesn’t work nearly as well as I’d like and there are effectively no well simulated airliners (the planes I’m interested in) available for MSFS.
All of that boils down to me going through a challenging real life experience while at the same time experiencing a lot of stagnation in my interests in flight simulation. The good news is that I am working my way out of that experience, and I am very excited to get back to work trying to make some more interesting content along with the usual flight video fare that I have been making.
I know I’ve been absent and silent, but sometimes that’s the best thing. Now I’m coming back.
